Outdoor Activities in Victor Harbor
Summer is the time to put away the screens and embrace nature. Luckily, in Victor Harbor, there are plenty of fun ways to make that happen. Take the Victor Harbor Horse-Drawn Tram to explore nearby Granite Island and see the magnificent granite boulders.
Take the kids to try surfing with lessons at nearby Middleton, or just head to the beach for a family day out. If that’s not their style, you can also fish, snorkel, jetski, kayak, or canoe the waters nearby.
Kayak through the Inman Valley up the Inman River, navigating through picturesque nature reserves. Or, spot whales, dolphins, and sea lions on the Big Duck Boat Tour. Or get up close and personal with the animals at Urimbirra Wildlife Park or Softfoot Farm.
If water sports aren’t your thing, take the short walk to see Hindmarsh Falls and take a picnic lunch for the kids. Or, go on one of the many longer coastal trails in the area. Hire bikes from Victor Harbor for the whole family and explore the nearby Granite Island where the kids can check out the granite rocks, spot seals, or play a round of mini-golf.
Older teens and active families can attempt the cycle to historic Goolwa, a 30km ride in total. There are plenty of stops along the way. Best of all, you can take the iconic Cockle Train back to Victor Harbor, marvelling at the view along the way. Teens will also love quad biking over the rolling hills at Waitpinga Farm.

The sun is often shining in Victor Harbor, but if not, there are plenty of family friendly things to do in Victor Harbor that will keep you and your little ones out of the rain. Relax and unwind with a movie in town at Victa Cinemas, or try your hand at axe throwing. Visit the South Australian Whale Centre where you can learn all about these majestic creatures and take part in the interactive exhibits.
Visit the iconic Horse Drawn Tram and admire the view across the harbor or jump on the Cockle Train, Australia’s oldest railway line, check out the motor museum at Goolwa, or browse the shops at Port Elliot.
Take the Horsedrawn Tram to Granite island
Take the family on the Historic Horse Drawn Tram over the causeway to Granite Island. Pulled by the beautiful Clydesdales, the Tram is one of only two remaining horse drawn trams in the world that operate a daily service and offers majical views of the island, the Bluff and back to the foreshore.
