If you’re in no hurry, take the scenic Southern Ocean Drive, which meanders through some of the region’s best wineries, beaches, and lookouts. However, the direct route only takes an hour and there’s still some picturesque scenery on the way, and the drive winds its way past McLaren Vale and over Mount Jagged.

The road trip from Melbourne to Victor Harbor takes just over eight hours, but there’s plenty to see along the way. Break up the trip by stopping at Ballarat, the tranquil Grampians National Park, and Strathalbyn.
Alternatively, you can take the longer Great Ocean Road and tour the jaw-dropping coastline, stopping at a handful of waterfront towns along the way like Lorne, Port Fairy and Coonawarra.
If you’re coming from nearby Kangaroo Island, it’s only a hop, skip, and a jump over to Victor Harbor. Get the car ferry back to the mainland and drive the rest of the way. The entire trip takes less than three hours, but if you’d like to stop and take in the view you can stop at the breathtaking Deep Creek Lookout along the way.
