Hindmarsh Valley
If you’re looking to escape, there’s no better place than Hindmarsh Valley. Enter a paradise of tranquil bushland where an abundance of unspoiled wildlife lies just waiting to be discovered.
Take the family to Hindmarsh Falls and picnic amongst the idyllic natural landscape where the only sound you can hear is the water cascading over the rocks. Explore peaceful creeks and babbling brooks as you traverse the serene string bark forest. Admire the native vegetation in the area, or look out for wildlife hiding amongst the trees. Keen bird watchers might even spot wrens and thrushes hopping through the dense foliage or a Laughing Kookaburra surveying you from the trees with his beady eyes.
Next, take the family to Softfoot Farm, where you can explore the property by day on an open-air buggy and get up close and personal with the adorable alpacas. You can even partake in a moonlit wildlife adventure tour, where you can spot wallabies, bandicoots, and sweet little potoroos hopping along the forest floor. Once the tour is over you can always stay the night in one the farm’s luxury retreats and stay to explore another day.
If you’re looking for a more hands-on wildlife experience, stop by Urimbirra Wildlife Park, an open-range park where you can pat koalas, feed kangaroos, and learn about snakes from a professional handler.
The park houses over 400 Australian animals and offers a range of wildlife education programs for the kids.
If you’re on a couples’ getaway, indulge in a long lunch at Lost Phoenix Farm and enjoy the distinctive flavours of the local produce, or and sample spirits at Cut Hill Distillery next door. Later, wind down with a delicious romantic dinner at The Swagman Chargrill.
Stay to adventure another day in a nearby bed and breakfast or relax in style at one of Hindmarsh Valley’s modern luxury retreats.
