Experiencing Marine Sanctuaries professional snorkel leaders and marine biologists will help you explore Screwpile Jetty and surrounding reef on Granite Island, home to the blue devilfish, eagle rays, elusive leafy and weedy sea dragons and other fish and plant life.

Suitable for children 5 years and above who can tread water and swim. Children under 15 years must be accompanied by a parent/adult. EMS snorkel tours are suitable for adults with and without children. Friends and families are grouped together.

Wetsuit, mask (goggles), snorkel, fins (flippers), and an accredited guide provided. Sizes adult 5XL down to child 4. All wetsuits are washed, and mask/snorkels sterilised between uses with COVID-19 approved chemicals. Bring your own wetsuit, mask and snorkel if you prefer.

Dolphins, Whales & Me describes Mike Bossley’s lifetime involvement in marine conservation, including campaigns against commercial whaling in Australia & internationally, the establishment of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, research into the phenomenon of solitary dolphins, dolphin culture, and the establishment of the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary.

Mike was Australian of the Year (South Australia) in 2005 and was awarded the Order of Australia in 2006 for his marine conservation work. In 2022 he received a Lifetime Achievement award from the SA Conservation Council.

Meet and hear environmentalist, scientist and advocate Dr. Mike Bossley talk about his book Dolphins, Whales & Me at the Victor Harbor Library.

Learn about the dune system along our stunning coastline and how it is being cared for. This presentation will show the remarkable results of the work that has been done over 22 years by this award-winning group of volunteers, Victor Harbor Coastcare. It will show the diverse range of activities performed by a small group of volunteers to restore and protect a narrow strip of coastline between the Bluff and Hayborough.

Take a step back in time and discover the stories of Victor Harbor’s unique and sometimes dark Whaling History. The first export industry in the new colony of South Australia. Free event: Winter Whale Fest Official Opening

The official festivities will start at 8:30am on Sunday, 28 May 2023, with a traditional Ramindjeri Welcoming the Whales and Smoking Ceremony at the amphitheater situated on Solders Memorial Gardens, Flinders Parade.

Locals Mark Koolmatrie and Cedric Varcoe will perform the welcoming and smoking ceremony.

Following the ceremony, visitors can engage with conservation groups, ocean art stalls and visit Kondoli the inflatable whale at Railway Plaza between 10am and 4pm.

Water People is a group exhibition with Fleurieu-based established, mid-emerging and emerging artists. We are honoured to be hosting the work of Interstate special guest artists and ocean activists Timothy Johnston and Valerie Taylor. Immerse yourselves and dive deep into the waters of our abundant coastlines reflected through multi-medium creativity. This exhibition will play a vital role in this year’s Winter Whale Fest and Welcoming of the Whales Ceremony.
