As a coastal community, Victor Harbor is a destination designed for tourists. It’s a short 60-minute drive from Adelaide CBD and is the perfect stop on the way to Kangaroo Island, or coming from McLaren Vale or through the Mount Lofty Ranges.

Drive to Victor Harbor
From Adelaide
The drive from Adelaide to Victor Harbor is simply breathtaking. If you’re in no hurry, take the scenic Southern Ocean Drive, which meanders through some of the region’s best wineries, beaches, and lookouts. However, the direct route only takes an hour and there’s still some picturesque scenery on the way, and the drive winds its way past McLaren Vale and over Mount Jagged.
You can easily hire a car from Central Adelaide if you don’t have one. Or, you can even grab a taxi to Victor Harbor if you’re travelling with friends or family.
From Melbourne
The road trip from Melbourne to Victor Harbor takes just over eight hours, but there’s plenty to see along the way. Break up the trip by stopping at Ballarat, the tranquil Grampians National Park, and Strathalbyn.
Alternatively, you can take the longer Great Ocean Road and tour the jaw-dropping coastline, stopping at a handful of waterfront towns along the way like Lorne, Port Fairy and Coonawarra.
From Kangaroo Island
If you’re coming from nearby Kangaroo Island, it’s only a hop, skip, and a jump over to Victor Harbor. Get the car ferry back to the mainland and drive the rest of the way. The entire trip takes less than three hours, but if you’d like to stop and take in the view you can stop at the breathtaking Deep Creek Lookout along the way.

Bus to Victor Harbor
There is a direct bus departing from central Adelaide and arriving in Victor Harbor most days of the week. The entire journey takes just under two hours and winds its way through the picturesque McLaren Vale and Mount Jagged. Although the bus ride is fairly short in itself, you do need to pre-book the service in advance, so we recommend preparing for your journey in advance.

Fly to Victor Harbor
Although you can’t fly directly to Victor Harbor, you can fly into Adelaide Airport and take connecting bus trips or hire a car directly from the airport. Luckily there’s plenty to see along the way, such as the world-renowned wine region of McLaren Vale.

The Victor Harbor community works hard to ensure that the town is as accessible as possible for our community and valued visitors. In a recent update to the main street, most buildings and walkways in central Victor Harbor are now accessible for all. The community will continue to work towards accessibility for those with all kinds of disabilities.
