Chic and stylish, the oceanside town of Port Elliot has it all. Tucked away on the idyllic coast, Port Elliot has plenty to offer for a day trip from Victor Harbor; elegant boutiques, picture-perfect beaches, and chic cafés.

While away the morning floating amongst the turquoise waters of Horseshoe Bay, then stop for lunch at the famous Flying Fish Café. Spend the afternoon browsing the many gift stores and clothing boutiques or sampling the famous donuts at the Port Elliot Bakery.

Middleton is a beachfront surfing town on the Fleurieu Peninsula, known for its idyllic beaches, surfing, and abundant marine life. Take a surf lesson or, if you’re passing by in winter, keep an eye out for Southern Right Whales basking in the shallows of Middleton’s protected Marine Park.

Things to do in Goolwa

Soak up the history of Goolwa, a small town perched on the edge of the water, where the ocean meets the mighty Murray River. As a port town, Goolwa naturally acts as a mecca for water sports, fishing, and wildlife, whether you choose to jump on board a tour or hire a vessel and go on a self-guided adventure of your choosing. Watch sea lions snoozing in the sun at Goolwa Barrage or sea birds circling above..

The town also offers plenty of cultural experiences, with historic sandstone buildings dotting its leafy streets, as well as plenty of pubs, restaurants, and even a microbrewery.

Goolwa is a gateway to the spectacular Coorong National Park, an expansive lagoon featuring over 230 species of birds. There are endless experiences to embark upon, from kayaking, to walking, to cycling, or just marvelling at the pure white beaches and undisturbed bushland trails.

Only a half-hour drive from Victor Harbor, Yankalilla is picturesque, with modern amenities yet all the old-world charm of a country village. It has a rich historical significance and was once known as one of the most important centres on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Immerse yourself in one of the many things to do in Yankalilla; kayaking through Rapid Bay, hiking the Great Gorge Walk, or tasting a new drop at one of the area’s wineries.

Tour the historical sites of Yankalilla by visiting the Yankalilla Historical Museum or the Saint Mary McKillop Old School House. Or simply stroll along the town’s leafy streets, admiring the historic buildings and pristine gardens. Things to do in McLaren Vale

Gently sloping hills, endless vineyards with coastal views, and some of the best wine and produce in Australia; McLaren Vale has it all, and is only a mere 45-minute drive from Adelaide, making it the perfect stop on the way back to the city centre. This vibrant region has a rich cultural heritage and majestic natural landscapes, along with a veritable smorgasbord of foodie festivals and creative events running throughout the year.

The thriving region of McLaren Vale is best known for its world-class Shiraz as well as premium Grenache, smooth Cabernet and a range of divine Spanish varietals. Tour the region’s cellar doors, but don’t forget to stop by at one of the area’s best restaurants. Kangaroo Island is a destination in its own right, a playground for wildlife and a paradise of untamed natural beauty. Best of all, you can catch the ferry there directly from Cape Jervis, a mere 45-minute drive from Victor Harbor. Unlock a world of pristine beaches, spectacular sunsets and a whole host of adventures just waiting for you. There are plenty of things to do on Kangaroo Island, like swimming, kayaking, hiking, or shopping.
